How to care for you Mala

My malas are made with semi precious gemstones, wood and seed beads. The tassels are made from Japanese silk threads, and the beads are threaded and knotted onto silk thread. I feel they vibrate to a higher frequency due to be all natural materials. The tassels are often what people tell me set my malas aside from the other makers out there. The downside to silk tassels is that they will react to their environment. This means that you must care for you Mala.
I would advise wearing your sacred mala with respect.
Certainly not wearing whilst practicing a sweaty yoga class. A nice way to include your Mala into your practice is to lay your Mala on the top of your mat.
When wearing try to avoid oils, creams and perfume coming in contact with the threads as over time this might cause degeneration and definitely avoid getting wet. This is also true for the Taxus wood and Rudraksha seeds. Exposure over time to oils even in the skin will darken the appearance.
To keep the tassel looking nice please store it hanging in a sacred or meaningful place or flat and tidy.
If a rogue string comes loose you can give it a gentlle pull to remove or if it doesn't move you can trim with sharp scissors.
If you think a more robust style is needed I am currently making bespoke Mala beads with a gemstone point pendant instead of a tassel. Email me for more details they will be added to website soon.
